Issue 1 comes out January 9th! You can see if your shop has it and if they don't, violently demand why and threaten to pee on all their issues of anything 52 or Civil War related! It's the '76 way. Yay!

Entertainment Weekly Online begrudgingly gave us a B+! I don't have the link anymore, but they basically didn't like the book, despite admitting it was "well done" and that the four of us were "obviously talented". *shrug* Ya got me.

There'll be one last post to announce the move if I do.

Very very frightening me.

Just getting over the flu. The year never ends, does it? Here's something I did a few weeks back.

Before that literary periodical by the name of Wizard polluted my brain with Top 10 lists, the very first comic I bought with my own hard earned allowance was a Ron Frenz issue of Thor, featuring The THOR CORPS: Eric Masterson, Beta Ray Bill, and Dargo the future Thor. It was and still is fan-freaking-tastic, and I still regularly look at the Ron Frenz issues I own because there's still things to be learned from them. Everything from anatomy and acting to staging and storytelling... it all still holds up. I pulled 'em out again a couple days ago in fact.

After my young impressionable mind discovered Wizard I started buying a bunch of typical 90's crap. I still pull that stuff out too, but only out of morbid nostalgia. If there is such a thing.

Moral of the story kids: Wizard = Bad. Ron Frenz + Thor = Good.

Ever have those days where everything you do is complete and utter crap? I was an inking fiend all week and today I looked at what I'd done and decided it was crap. and then spent most of my time fixing things, but not really entirely sure if the fixes would even be any better...

anyway. here's a 2 minute study from a TV still.

ALSO. Please please please, if you're at all interested in purchasing '76 #1, it would be awesome if you asked your retailer to be sure they've ordered it. ( ORDER CODE: NOV07 2010 ) I think orders for January are due in at the end of November... And I hate to sound all whorey and junk, but because this is an Image book, we make money based on sales, there isn't a page-rate I'm getting paid or anything. That's the way the deal works. So yeah.. uhm. I need money to eat and stuff.

To see what you can expect from '76, including interior pages and other neat thingies, there's the 76blog and I've made a thread over at the Drawing Board too. Even if you hate my stuff, you might love Tigh's pages! Hopefully you'll dig us both, coz we aim to please. *jazz hands*

Messing around. Did like, 5 minutes of stray sketching and most of the work in ink, also quick-fast-speedy-style. Apart from some wonkiness (but then most of my work is wonky anyhow)....turned out ok, I think!

Also, I just got back from the comic shop and my haul today makes me have faith in comics again:

Special Forces #1 - Kyle Baker is brilliant. If you've read "You Are Here" or any other of his books, you know this. The cover has a rag-tag Police Academy vibe, but make no mistake, the message here is actually significant. And the art is gorgeous, of course.

Jack of Fables #16 - Andrew Robinson fill-in, hell yes.

The Umbrella Academy #1 & #2 - finally got to check this out. facking brilliant comics. brilliant.

Issue 04 cover's coming along. I've got toilet paper serving as tissue stuffed in my nose and my face is burning.

Here's some random stuff so I don't end up whining this whole post:

Uhm. Darjeeling Ltd. was really really really really good. So's the soundtrack. If you have iTunes, you can download and watch the prequel, Hotel Chevalier, for absolutely zero dollars. nada dinero. Cool.

Speaking of iTunes, me being the backward out of touch kind of guy I am, I just recently got into subscribing to podcasts. For some reason I didn't realize that it was basically just downloading free MP3s of radio shows. I guess I just don't understand how that's a podcast, as if it's "broadcast" in some way, when it really.. isn't?   In any case, I've loaded up on shows I always miss on the radio like This American Life, and also discovered shows like Fair Game with Faith Salie, who is the wittiest and most genuine female radio host I've ever heard. Plus, she's hot.

Surprisingly, Chuck is a pretty fun show to watch. Reaper kind of isn't, even though they're both practically the same show. Weird, huh?   I'd probably be reversing that statement if I'd seen Reaper first, though.

Also, if you've been watching Heroes, the guy that plays Kenzo?   Me and a couple buddies were at a bar out here in LaLaLand a couple months ago, and my roommate totally schooled him at pool. He seemed cool though, and to be fair, my roomie was on some insane alcohol-induced spree of lucky shots. It was a good night. Not like tonight. Tonight sucks. I'm going to lie down.

Slowly gettin' back into some semblance of a working pace. slowly. funny thing about having your back 90% healed, you sorta treat it like it's 100% healed and the next thing you know... you're back to like.. square one. well ok not that bad. Maybe square... 4? Trying not to think about things, have to keep myself focused on work and distracted from ... other things. Is it 2008 yet?

I saw the Previews ad for the first issue, we get a full page Image spotlight or somesuch. It's rad. I'll post the order code # and all that jazz later this month when the Previews issue we're in is out.

Clay posted this over at the '76 Blog, so I figured I'd share. Pencilling issue 4 at the moment, I think I'm finally starting to find my way around things, culling together everything good from the first 3 issues, and as always trying to improve the weak spots. One specific thing for this issue - working out facial expressions better, and matching them up to specific words of dialogue. Tigh (who is drawing the other half of '76) has been kicking ass at that from day one, so I figured I should try to get better at it.

Also, fun little fact, I can see the corner 76 gas station from my window. AND, my previous apartment building street address was... #76. weirdness.

It's been a stressful-ass year, and an especially stupid past 3-4 months. I think it's starting to look up though. I'll know for sure by next Monday. Here's a stress relief doodle thingymabobby. Oh, also, that warning on bottles of Advil/Motrin/etc that says not to take it for longer than 10 days? Yeah, you really, really shouldn't.

also I would like to add that I really wish this thing had been titled differently. It just doesn't sit well with me to have a title so close to Farel Dalrymple's great Pop Gun War. ah well.

Also, from a CBR overview of the Baltimore con:
"The panel then discussed "76" which is an eight-issue miniseries that will feature two stories: "Jackie Karma" by B. Clay Moore and Ed Henry and "Cool" from Seth Peck and Ty Walker."

I bet Tigh feels silly spelling his name wrong all these years. Also, if Ed Henry wants to draw the book and send me money, that's totally cool.

Yeah, didn't make the 3 week record for life drawing. suck. Will be going this week though! Also it kind of hit me that I'm doing a book at Image. I mean, it's a different (and I think better) place now entirely, but I grew up reading WildCATs and stuff and totally wanting to work for Image/Wildstorm when I was a youngin', and now I've got a book that's gonna be sporting the same Image "I" logo on it. That's really cool.

Whelp... 2 weeks in a row. Let's see if we can break the record and go 3+... Model this week was pretty great - good poses, held pretty steady too. Two 1-hr pose pencil drawings and some 10 minute brush/pen/whiteout stuff. And in the corner, one of the studio cats that stopped in the middle of the floor to look around. Silly cat.

Brought to you by the magic of IcyHotXL(tm) medicated back patches - some wednesday life drawing. Or at least, the ones that didn't suck. 10 mins each, and the sitting gesture that took 19 minutes of screwing up and then 1 minute of doodling a better one in the corner of the screwup.

Done with an 03 Staedtler liner, a nice brushpen, a beat up brushpen, a japanese sumi-e refillable brushpen, a grey prisma, and a whiteout pen.
